June is National Walking Month, so in celebration we are sharing 4 fantastic reasons to pull on your trainers and add a walk into your daily routine...


1. Lowers Stress Levels

Walking is a great way to clear your mind and help reduce stress plus getting out in nature is proven to help reduce anxiety.  Any kind of exercise helps your body to produce endorphins and improves your ability to sleep, which in turn, lowers your stress levels. 


2. Keeps Your Heart Healthy

Get out and enjoy a stroll as often as often as possible to help reduce your risk of heart and cardiovascular disease. Walking at least five days a week will help keep the heart strong and healthy. If you are struggling to fit this in, don't forget ten minutes  of activity is better than no activity at all! You could try taking the stairs rather than the lift, get off the bus a stop or two early - small changes can really make a difference and help you increase your daily steps! 


3. Regulates Blood Pressure

There is now a huge body of evidence showing that a daily walk can lower blood pressure, any aerobic activity can make your heart stronger and much more efficient. If you heart works less to pump, the force on your arteries will be decreased, this will in turn lower your blood pressure. 


4. Aids In Weight Loss

The more you move, the more calories you burn! If you are looking to reduce body fat, a brisk walk for 45 minutes mobilises the body to dip into fat reserves for energy. Aim to get your heart rate to around 140 bpm and keep it there for the 45 minutes - or longer if can!
